How it started
One truck, one farmer, 2001
Bruce Mack had been farming Gippsland dirt for 40 years when he founded Mac Waste Group in 2001, with one truck out of Maffra. The idea was straightforward: local families, farms and businesses needed a septic and liquid waste operator who answered the phone, priced the job honestly and turned up on the day, and not much has changed about that since.
25 years on, the fleet has grown from that one truck into a run that reaches from Mallacoota in the far east through to Pakenham, taking in Wellington Shire, Latrobe City, East Gippsland, Baw Baw and Cardinia along the way. The company is now run by Bruce's two sons, Paddy and Doug Mack, and Bruce still comes to work.

Every operator lives in Gippsland and the trucks sleep at the Maffra depot, so when we say same-week service the truck is usually about forty minutes away.
EPA accredited
We are accredited by EPA Victoria and Waterboard to collect, transport and dispose of the liquid and prescribed waste categories in the codes list. Every job comes with the documentation an auditor asks for.
Family owned, family run
Two generations work the business together, and it is owned and run by the Mack family here in Maffra, so if something goes sideways the person you ring about it is the person who owns it.
Same phone, any hour
The emergency line exists because septic systems overflow at 2am on a Sunday, so if you ring the office number someone picks up and we work out how fast we can get a truck to you.
Working towards ISO 45001
We are progressing an ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system, aligned with our safety approach: zero harm, monthly SWMS reviews, digital incident reporting.
Community minded
The Mack family are active in Gippsland football clubs and the Maffra Golf Club. Mac Waste is also a proud partner of the Little Jem Foundation.

We back the football and netball clubs, the junior motocross, and the fundraising that goes on around all of it. The Mack family has been part of this community for 25 years, and we put something back into it wherever we can. Our partnership with the Little Jem Foundation sits alongside all of that.
