Common questions
How often should leachate be pumped out?
It depends on rainfall. Gippsland summers are drier so tanks and ponds fill more slowly. In winter, keep a close eye on landfill tanks so they do not reach the overflow point.
Why does it matter if leachate leaks?
Leachate carries a high load of toxic substances. Untreated leakage into groundwater or a nearby waterway is both an environmental and a public health risk, and the regulator takes it seriously.
